I've been to this show several years in a row and you'll definitely see some wild stuff here. There used to be a good mini representation when they started these shows as they combined the import kit/replica and this performance and style show together in the same weekend. But the P&S has gotten so huge, that they had to break both shows up. Since then, I haven't really seen much of them other than the one pictured below in the 'Ice House'. So perhaps we can represent our minis by going up as a group. Carlisle Performance & Style Currently, my idea would be to meet up at the Wegmans in Timonium between 8:30am and 9:15am (depart promptly at 9:30am). From there, it's about an hour mini train to Carlisle. They usually have the usual car show stuff like burnout contest, dyno, autoX, Sound off, swap meet, etc. Cost: There are a couple ways we can go with this or you can decide depending on how much you want to spend. -- There is of course General Admission. In this case you would park in a general parking lot. Adult Admission: Sat. $20 /Sun. $15 /2-Day Weekend Pass $25 Child Admission: 8 and under - FREE -- You can register as a Non-Judged Showfield. In this case you can park 'inside' the defined areas/groups for $40.00. Registration includes weekend admission for two people. - To register on line : http://store.carlislevents.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=22 - To register via Mail: http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/pdf/2010_Showfield_Registration_PNS.pdf Depending on the amount of interest, we might also be able to get group discounts. - There would also be some 'mini'mum toll charges and of course any food and drink. Other Items that I recommend: - Cameras/Camcorders - Those cool folding chairs - Cooler for food/drinks (although they have a lot of food vendors and they're actually not bad) - $$ for cool stuff - Suntan lotion (there are some covered areas around the grandstands) - Umbrellas (yes I have been there when it's rained and it's still pretty crowded then) - tents/canopy's - 2 Way Radios In the next week or so, I'll start gathering some more details together.
UPDATE: 03/04/10 - Rescheduling for the 14th in order to plan for the Carlisle Performance & Style Event on the 8th. Please join me in some sushi and then drag racing in Crofton on Friday May 14th. We will first meet for a 6:30pm meal at Otani Japanese Cuisine. It is located to the left of Giant in Crofton on the Rt. 3 Northbound side. Although there is a parking lot in front of the restaurant, there is a large open lot across the road where we can all park. Please visit the site for menu options. Although they don't cook the food in front of you, you can still order Hibachi meals if you are not a sushi eater. There is currently a limit of 15 seats. If we need more, I can talk to them and see what adjustments can be made. Just let me know if you are interested ahead of time so I can confirm. I'd like to have a complete headcount by Thursday May 6th. Otani - If possible, please bring cash - Please arrive between 6 and 6:30 After dinner, if you are interested, we will then be heading across the street (Rt. 3 Southbound) to Capital Raceway to watch some drag racing (test and tune) of all kinds of cars. If you want to see how fast your mini is, you can do that too. $20.00 to race $10.00 to watch. Since by this time it will be brighter out later (versus the first time we did this in October), if you want to run the track earlier, feel free to do so (Daniel ). You can meet us at the restaurant or we can just meet you there. Capitol Raceway
It's time to attack the curves and picking cherries again. :) Meeting in Frederick, MD at: Frederick Towne Mall, main parking lot 1301 W Patrick St., Frederick, MD at 9 am, we will depart promptly at 9:30am. Heading north we will work our way through the hills and curves of Gambrill State Park, Cunningham Falls State Park and down the winding ways of Catoctin Mountain National Park. Total of 65 miles, Driving time of approx. 2 hours. After we've warmed up the rubber on our tires, we'll let them cool while we enjoy our brunch buffet. We will stop for brunch at: Cozy's Restaurant 103 Frederick Rd / Rt.806 Thurmont, MD 21788 Cost: $17/person, included 10 main-courses buffet, deserts, beverages, tax and gratuities. Kindly bring EXACT cash for the amount. Then it will be time to heading out for picking cherries at Pryor's Orchards in Thurmont. Things recommended: Two-ways radio, set @ channel 7, sub-channel 21 Sunblock lotion. Hat and sunglasses, very useful during the cherries picking. Water bottles Some cash, they don't take charge or check at the orchard, and as well as for the lunch. Suggest that everyone should have some light breakfast before the run to avoid "motion sickness", especially for your co-pilot and the passengers. Trust me on this one. The route is not very long, total of only ~65 miles. BUT, it will winding left, right, up, down through the mountains. Kind of very very twisty in some parts. There are some with extreme up-slope and/or down-slope. For some may feel this very challenging. The run is planned to finish within ~2 1/2 hours with one 20 minutes break in between. We should arrive Cozy's by noon. After we spend some times for the delicious brunch, we will caravan out to Prior's orchard for cherries picking.
Please join me in the 2nd Annual C3M Potluck Picnic at Quiet Waters Park. Are you ready for another adventurous Sunday excursion? Similar to last year, we'll do a short run, visit downtown Annapolis, and then off to Quiet Waters Park for a Pot Luck Picnic. Because of the 'parking' problem we had last year at the BWI meeting place, we will be meeting between 8:30am-9:30am in the Arundel Mills Parking lot (end parking lot of Bed Bath and Beyond). We'll start our run from Arundel Mills promptly at 9:30am to the docks of downtown Annapolis with a stop 1/2 way there. Depending on parking, we'll try to make a quick stop to enjoy the beautiful harbor, take in the sights, and take lots of pictures of the minis and boats of Ego Alley. If it's really bad, then we'll just continue on to QWP. Details of Annapolis and the Park are pretty much the same. I'm sure we can get Marina to take us on at least a little driving tour again and a quick stop at the memorial for a great view of the Naval Acadamy. Here's a link for the park: http://www.aacounty.org/RecParks/parks/quietwaters/ Quiet Waters Park has a lot to offer, so please visit their site for details, information, and rules. Dogs are allowed. Daily parking fees are $6.00 per car. If you are service connected, (military, veterans, and their families), entry is free as long as you have proper id. I plan to reserve a pavilion like last year. This way we are guaranteed a spot w/cover, parking together, and grilling if want to. Total cost will be based an the number of 'yes' rsvp's. Last year the pavilion worked out to be about $10.00 per per car + the cost of parking. (see above). If more members rsvp, then the cost of the pavilion goes down. I will let everyone know how the payment will work out. 600 Quiet Waters Park Road Annapolis, MD 21403 Things to bring/share with everyone: - Food and Drink (no alcohol; sorry, not allowed). (This year, I might set up a sign up sheet so that we don't end up with 10 desserts (not that, that's a bad thing)). - Cameras/Camcorders - 2 way radios - Channel 7; Sub-Channel 21 - Bug spray - Sunscreen - Coolers - Change/Cash for parking in Annapolis and pavilion/parking for QWP - Your cleaned and shined Mini and Mini-wear if you have it For those who might not be able to start the run with us and want to meet us somewhere or for those who have last minute changes (can or can't come), please feel free to call me on my cell at [masked]. - Steve
