Strategies for Healthcare Costs

MNN is pleased to announce the topic of its 2011 Regional Meetings: “Healthwise: Strategies for Your Health Care Costs.” The 2011 regional meetings will focus on the subject the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network hears most about from its members: the rising cost of health care. Attendees will learn how to navigate the current health care system and about existing subsidies, as well as how they can play a role in efforts to control mounting costs.

To aid nonprofit leaders and employees in navigating the current health insurance market, The Health Connector will present a brief overview of health insurance requirements followed by information about benefit design and subsidies.

Health Care for All will share information about efforts in the Massachusetts Legislature to address health care costs through payment reform. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to share their experiences with their legislators of trying to meet the challenge of rising health care costs, and learn from the legislators about the status of this issue and the role that attendees can play in moving this issue forward in the Legislature.

Heritage Area Photo Safari featuring Tamron
With a state-of-the-art digital camera in hand, capture magnificent views of the Great Marsh, the Essex River, the back of Crane Beach, and Castle Hill and Choate Island from the Cox Reservation! You'll be equipped with all the latest camera gear from Tamron, provided by Hunt’s Photo & Video, and personally coached by Hunt’s technical experts and visiting professional photographers, as you ready to photograph The Cox Reservation. The Cox Reservation consists of two parcels: a four-acre woodlot and the 26-acres of upland, salt marsh, farmland with house and barn, and river frontage. Its location on the Essex Bay estuary makes the Cox Reservation a rewarding place for natural history observation. Shorebirds feed on the mud flats at Clamhouse Landing, and herons, egrets and kingfishers take advantage of the abundant food source of the salt marsh. The old hayfields surrounding the house and barns are home to bobolinks, meadowlarks, and also support the activity of bluebird boxes and osprey platforms. Reservations required. Essex Heritage & Essex County Greenbelt Members $35; Non-Members $45. Please register online at www.essexheritage.org or call Essex Heritage at 978-740-0444 with questions.

In the days before photography, portraits offered self-expression and family documentation, first to the wealthy colonial settlers, and then increasingly to the middle class. Itinerant artists of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, often self-taught, painted inexpensive portraits for rural families, and worked in a style whose charm still appeals today. Join Site Manager Kristen Weiss for an in-depth look at the folk art portrait collection at Cogswell's Grant, and an exploration of the many families and artists represented in the house.
